Not everyone should be allowed to vote YOUR STANCE:

description

Should everyone of voting age be allowed to vote or should there be some sort of criteria for people to complete to make sure they understand how to vote in their best interests

For People who don't understand the issues tend to vote against their best interests

With so much information available and media bias people get caught up in voting becoming a popularity contest Rather than voting for the politician who's policies reflect those of the voter, people will follow what they're told by advertising and media pundits who have their own agendas for wanting someone in particular to be elected

Against Too difficult to decide who is allowed to vote and who isn't

In a democratic society, voting should be recognised as a fundamental right and to restrict some people from voting and allow others to would be akin to suppressing vote and becoming undemocratic. There's no way to draw a line to clearly define who can vote and who cannot.

rebuttal Such lines are already drawn

People are already excluded based on their age and other factors such as whether they've been to prison

rebuttal Those exclusions are based on simple definitions

For someone to be able to vote it is a simple question of whether or not they are old enough to do so or if they have or haven't been to prison. If the voting process was to become selective based on a person's intelligence or understanding of issues it becomes much more ambiguous

For Money has too much influence over the outcome of campaigns

There is a strong correlation between the amount of money spent in political campaigns and how that can influence the outcome and so if people had a better understanding of the policies they would be less likely to be swayed by political advertising
